The Faculty of Medicine, Department of biomedicine, is offering a full-time PhD-position for a duration of three (3) years).
A PhD position is available within the “Bioanalytics and Intermediary Metabolism” research group, which is part of the “Systems Biology and Translational Cell Signaling” research unit. The “Bioanalytics and intermediary Metabolism” group, headed by Marcel Kwiatkowski, is specialised in mass spectrometric cross-OMICs to investigate molecular mechanisms at the interface of metabolism and protein function in the context of cellular homeostasis and epigenetics.
About the project/work tasks:
- Investigating the molecular mechanisms at the interface between metabolism and signalling in the context of cellular homeostasis and epigenetics
- Development of subcellular proteo-metabolomics and fluxomics workflows to investigate the dynamics hub molecules (Acyl-CoAs, CoA, SAM) and protein/histone modifications (acylation, methylation)
- Study the impact of xenobiotics on cellular metabolism and epigenetic signalling
Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must possess a Master`s degree or an equivalent in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or Chemistry.
- Hands-on experiences in cell biology, molecular biology including mammalian cell culture and protein biochemistry are required
- Profound knowledge in bioinformatics, especially Python and/or R are required
- Experience from relevant research projects investigating cellular metabolism, and/or protein modifications and signalling, respectively, will be considered as positive
- Experience in LC-MS and mass spectrometry will be considered as positive
- The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a structured manner, while also being capable of effective collaboration with others
- The applicant must exhibit both the ability and motivation to undertake a PhD project.
- Fluency in both oral and written English is required, see documentation requirements for further details.

Please see https://hkdir.no/en/ for more information about HK-dir’s general recognition. The review process by HK-dir may take some time. Therefore, please submit your application to HK-dir as soon as you decide to apply for the position. If you do not receive a response within the application deadline, you must include documentation from HK-dir confirming receipt of your application. Please note that the automatic recognition offered by HK-dir insufficient and will not be accepted as basis for admission to the PhD programme. Applicants with education from a Nordic country or those with a medical degree from the EEA area and a license to practice medicine in Norway are exempt from the requirement for HK-dir assessment.
