The Research Department at Statistics Norway invites applications for a position in empirical environmental and resource economics. The department has a strong track record of high-quality, policy relevant research, and provides an excellent environment for applied economic research, with well-developed research infrastructure, and close connections to both policymaking and the broader research community.

The successful candidate will join the Unit for Environmental, Resource and Innovation Economics, which conducts research on topics such as the valuation of natural resources and ecosystem services, climate policy, and energy markets. We seek a candidate with a solid background in applied microeconometrics or related empirical methods, who can contribute to ongoing projects and develop new research initiatives within these areas.

In addition to publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, our research informs public debate and supports evidence-based policymaking. The unit collaborates closely with various ministries and government agencies and maintains an active network of national and international research partners.

Job description

• Conduct empirical research in environmental economics.
• Publish research in international peer-reviewed journals.
• Contribute to the research environment in the department, including the development of new research projects and applications for external funding.
• Conduct empirical analyses and contribute to the development of economic models to inform policy decisions by government ministries, parliament, and other national stakeholders.
• Collaborate with colleagues at Statistics Norway and with external partners to enhance the quality and relevance of official statistics.
  

Qualifications

• A completed PhD in economics or a closely related field prior to employment.
• Demonstrated expertise in environmental economics or related fields.
• Strong skills in statistical analysis and/or econometrics.
• Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, Python, or R.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a high proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in written and spoken Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) is an advantage. Candidates who do not speak a Scandinavian language are expected to learn Norwegian within a reasonable time.
• Experience in securing research funding is desirable.

We offer

• A permanent position as researcher (position code 1109, 1110 or 1183) with a salary in the range NOK 660,000 – 845,000 per year, depending on qualifications. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
