Want to dive into some of the most exciting research challenges at the frontier of quantum information theory and quantum machine learning? We aim to unlock the potential of quantum neural networks and explore how to harness quantum advantages in the near-term noisy intermediate-scale quantum era.
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Quantum Physics, or a closely related field to work on the exciting and emerging field of quantum machine learning in the intersection with information theory. The successful candidate will have a strong track record demonstrated by publications in top-tier journals and international conferences, experience with machine learning, and good programming skills, as well as strong analytical skills. Moreover, a good knowledge of quantum information theory and/or statistical learning theory is an advantage. They must be highly motivated and be able to demonstrate their potential for conducting original research in quantum information theory/machine learning and/or quantum physics. We expect the candidate to have good communication skills and be fluent in English, both in writing and speaking. Finally, the successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills and be willing and able to contribute to Simula UiB's working environment.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to explore and contribute to groundbreaking fundamental research questions and to the development of novel quantum machine learning algorithms. While specific research topics will be discussed with the successful candidate, potential directions may include themes such as effective dimension, generalization error bounds for quantum statistical models, quantum support vector machines, and quantum differential privacy. This is not only an opportunity to develop and shape your own research project, but also a chance to help define the future of quantum machine learning.
Simula UiB currently has 11 early-career researchers working on a range of research problems in cryptography and information theory. We can offer a vibrant, stimulating, and inclusive working environment to successful candidates. The position is for three years, with a possible extension of one year.
Excellent opportunities for conducting high-quality research, as part of a highly competent and motivated team of researchers.
An informal, inclusive and international working environment.
Support for travel and opportunities to build international networks.
Modern office facilities located at Marineholmen in the city centre of Bergen.
A competitive salary; starting salary from NOK 579 700.
Numerous employee benefits, including access to a company cabin, sponsored social events, an equipment budget, and a comprehensive travel/health insurance policy.
Relocation assistance, including complimentary Norwegian language courses.
Healthy wellness and work-life balance arrangements.
