About the Job
We have a vacancy for a temporary Researcher position within Advanced Electron Microscopy Characterization of Catalysts, Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU.
The position shall support and further develop the use of electron microscopy techniques in catalysis, including but not limited to ongoing research into catalyst structure-performance relations related to methanol partial oxidation over silver, CO/CO2 subscript hydrogenation over iron, and complete oxidations (e.g. CO or methane) over bimetallic systems.
The position is a 2-year temporary position.
Your immediate leader is Head of Department.
Duties of the position
- Electron Microscopy experimentation on catalysts and nanoparticles and corresponding data analysis according to the selection criteria below.
- Development of scientific journal manuscripts and presentations based on the results
- Grant (2-3) application preparation, both fundamental and in collaboration with industry
- Teaching equivalent to 20% of the position. This includes co-ordination of and 30% of the lecture/assignment work in the course TKP4190, 4-6 hours of lecturing in other relevant courses (for example KP8133), and supervision of specialization and master students in chemical engineering, nanotechnology or physics (in collaboration with. Dept of physics, NTNU).
Required selection criteria
- You must have a PhD in Physics or Materials Science
- You must have experimental experience in electron microscopy techniques, specifically:
- Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), including energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and dual electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) mapping, and atomic-resolution imaging.
- 4D-STEM and scanning precession electron diffraction (SPED)
- Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), including EDS and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD)
- Focused ion beam (FIB), including lift-out, TEM lamellae preparation, and automated slice and view
- Electron diffraction, including 3D ED methods such as continuous rotation electron diffraction (cRED)
- In situ heating combined with (S)TEM
- Specimen preparation by electropolishing and FIB
- You must have experience in analysis of electron microscopy data, specifically:
- Analysis of 4D-STEM and SPED data using the python-based open-source repositories hyperspy and pyxem, including orientation mapping of SPED data using template matching, and machine learning methods such as non-negative matrix factorisation (NMF)
- Python-based (S)TEM image processing and segmentation, and analysis of STEM-EDS and STEM-EELS data using hyperspy and exspy
- You must have teaching experience relevant to the course TKP4190 Fabrication and application of nanomaterials
- You must have good written and oral English and Norwegian language skills
Preferred selection criteria
- Knowledge of and experience with silver catalysts for the partial oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde
