About the Job
We have a vacancy for a 100 % permanent researcher position shared between urban water engineering and roads and transport engineering.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a vacant research position shared between the Water and Wastewater group and the Road, Rail and Transport group, which are all important infrastructure systems. We are seeking an innovative, creative, and responsible candidate to lead research activities and teaching support in informatics for infrastructure in a world of big data, climate change adaptation in the built environment around urban infrastructure, and transport systems.
This position relates to the University’s efforts to meet the society’s need for competence in digitalization, informatics and AI in engineering design and smart urban infrastructure from roads to water. The position will strengthen the informatics and modelling capacity of the groups and develop the field of holistic climate adaptation for built infrastructure in the departments.
Your immediate leader is the head of the department.
Duties of the position
- Teaching urban stormwater engineering for bachelor and master level courses
- Teaching modelling of stormwater systems and performance of blue green infrastructure bachelor and master level courses
- Contribute to research in stormwater engineering including green and gray infrastructure in collaboration with the research groups
- Develop research projects in relevant stormwater engineering in alignment with NTNU and The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s strategic agenda
- Actively strengthen the collaboration between the two groups through larger proposals and strategic project development
- Collaboration with industry and end users to develop research projects with high societal relevance and scientific quality
Required selection criteria
For the researcher codes 1109, you must have the qualifications required for the position of associate professor in the field of engineering, as outlined in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts
- PhD in water and/or transport infrastructure modelling with a focus on computational methods
- A strong publication track record with publications in relevant research areas in credible journals and conferences
- Experience in teaching and supervision in higher education at least on MSc level
- A strong background in climate adaptation of stormwater systems to climate change and needed future design performance
- Knowledge and relevant project experience with modelling of urban water systems (specifically stormwater)
- Experience with Python for advanced programming, both design and planning, as well as programming. Additional programming language (e.g. C++, VB) is a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of how to plan and carry out measurement campaigns for data collection, from method/device/placement selection to maintenance and finally data utilization
- Experience in working on research projects on a national and European level
- Good written and oral English
Preferred selection criteria
- Motivation and willingness for interdisciplinary research and teaching
- Experience with data management including computational techniques for data quality control, data imputation, data models, data sharing and metadata
- Experience with computational modelling of processes in urban infrastructure (e.g., transportation, water, urban drainage)
- Experience in handling and processing large and complex datasets (e.g., climate data)
- Good written and oral Norwegian skills

Salary and conditions
The gross salary for the position of Researcher (code 1109) is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 650 000 – 800 000 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund,
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU
